About Northwest Bedding

On Memorial Day, 1966 the founders of the company were listening to the Indianapolis 500 on the radio and finishing up installation of a cotton garnet machine at the building they bought on North Division and Francis. They had shipped the machine from their hometown of Southgate, California. A few weeks later, they packed up their families and household items and made the move to Spokane.

They opened for business in June but officially incorporated the business in July, 1966. In the early years, the owners cut, sewed, assembled, sold and delivered innovative mattress products to consumers in the Spokane area. They introduced mattresses with floral fabrics that were quilted. Mattresses at that time had striped fabrics and were button tufted instead of quilted.
The company continued to grow and began to sell mattresses to other retailers in Washington, Idaho, Oregon and Montana. In 1971, they expanded into a larger factory and showroom on Sprague and Fancher in the valley. In 1994, Washington State condemned its factory and showroom for a large I-90 construction project so it moved to its current location on Hayford Road west of the Spokane International Airport. The valley showroom relocated to its current location on Sprague and Evergreen. In 1996, the state also condemned its North Division store for a widening project at the Division and Francis intersection. The company tore down the old building and rebuilt an expanded location later that year on the existing and adjoining lots.

Over the years, the company has remained at the forefront in mattress design and materials. It is one of the largest manufacturers of latex mattresses on the West Coast. But it's not only about mattresses. The company has also expanded its store offerings into bedroom and occasional furniture, motion furniture, lift chairs, sofas, sleepers and many household accessories such as lamps, pictures and wall art. If it's for the bedroom, we have it!
